With over 8 years of IPTV experience, we are the leading media processor supplier for high-definition Linux, Android™, and Microsoft® Mediaroom™ IPTV set-top boxes. Instrumental in enabling the first Microsoft® Mediaroom™ set-top boxes to market, our media processors power the sophisticated on-screen guide and advanced features such as Digital Video Recorder (DVR), Video On Demand (VOD), lightning-fast channel change, ability to watch up to six channels at one time, sharing of photos and videos, and streaming music to the TV.
A new deployment architecture is also emerging. Currently, each TV in the home uses an IPTV set-top box. However, deployment costs can be substantially reduced by using a gateway and multiple low-cost thin clients. Each thin client controls one video source in the gateway or accesses recorded content. The selected live or recorded program is then sent to the thin client over the home AV network.
Our family of architecture-compatible Secure Media Processors, SDKs, and wide variety of reference designs enable fast development of an IPTV gateway, set-top box, set-back box (mounts behind the HDTV), or thin client with a wide variety of feature options:

The SMP8656 provides a highly-integrated, high-performance, cost-effective solution for cable/IPTV gateways and set-top boxes, supporting high-performance 3D graphics and NDS and Nagravision conditional access.

The SMP8652 provides a highly-integrated, high-performance, low-cost solution for IPTV set-top boxes and thin clients, cable thin clients, and media players.

The SMP8646 provides a highly-integrated, high-performance, cost-effective solution for mainstream Blu-ray players, premium media players, and cable/IPTV set-top boxes.

The CG3310M is a single-chip HomePNA® solution for MDU Endpoints, supporting high data rates, multi-band operation, advanced synchronous MAC, and best of breed QoS.

The third-generation CG3210 Chipset is the ideal solution for implementing HomePNA® v3.1 home AV networking - video, audio, data, and voice - over existing in-home phone wires or coax cables.

The SD3402 represents the fourth-generation of Z-Wave® single-chip wireless technology, and is ideal for easily adding Z-Wave® control and status capabilities to RF remote controls, set-top boxes, and CE products. Integration of the SD3402 into set-top boxes also adds the ability for cable and IPTV service providers to offer home security monitoring and home energy management services.

The SMP8654 provides a highly-integrated, high-performance, cost-effective solution for cable/IPTV gateways and set-top boxes.

The SMP8644 provides a highly-integrated, high-performance, cost-effective solution for premium Blu-ray players using our VXP® Video Processor, cable/IPTV gateways, and cable/IPTV set-top boxes.
Our development kits and reference designs enable the rapid development of an IPTV set-top box, gateway, or thin client with a wide variety of feature options, or choose a production model from one of our ODM partners.

The IPTV-8652 development kit enables the rapid development of an IPTV set-top box or thin client that can also support an ATSC, DVB-T, or ISDB-T tuner.

The IPTV-8654 development kit enables the rapid development of an IPTV set-top box or thin client.

The Vantage 8656 development kit enables the rapid development of cable/IPTV gateway and set-top boxes that can also support ATSC or DVB-T tuners.

The Vantage 8654 development kit enables the rapid development of cable/IPTV gateway and set-top boxes that can also support ATSC or DVB-T tuners.

The Vantage 8652 development kit enables the rapid development of an IPTV set-top box, media player, etc. that can also support ATSC or DVB-T tuners.
We provide solutions based on Linux, Android™, and WinCE.
We offer a robust IPTV set-top box software stack that is designed to quickly and easily enable our customers to add additional features.
Android™ from Google delivers a complete set of software: Linux operating system, middleware, and key applications. It is open source so it can be extended by third parties to incorporate emerging cutting edge technologies. The Google Android™ SDK includes all source code and provides the tools and APIs necessary to begin developing applications.
Sigma Designs, MIPS Technologies, and the Open Embedded Software Foundation (OESF) are working together on porting Android™ to our media processors to enable development of Android™-based high-definition IPTV set-top boxes, network players, etc. By adding support for MRUA (our hardware abstraction layer), DCC-HD (our presentation engine layer), and DirectFB, Android™-based devices are able to take full advantage of our media processor features.
Git and Repo are used to manage the workflow. Git is an open-source version-control system, and is used for local operations such as local branching, commits, diffs, and edits. Repo is used to help manage the many Git repositories, does the uploads to the revision control system, and automates parts of the Android™ development workflow.
The MIPS-Android-Sigma private project contains public code, SMP86xx Android™ source code, precompiled MRUA, DCC-HD, and DirectFB code, and sample applications. Developers can rebuild an Android™ image for our platform and test it, but they do not have access to our proprietary MRUA, DCC-HD, and DirectFB APIs. Thus, Android™ audio/video playback using MRUA is not supported; only MRUA audio/video playback alongside of (but independent of) Android™. Please contact your local sales representative for access.
Sigma Designs' Git Site
To incorporate full MRUA, DCC-HD, and DirectFB support into an Android-based design, we use our own Git server for distributing our proprietary MRUA, DCC-HD, and DirectFB APIs. Please contact your local sales representative for access.
Sigma Designs is working with the following software companies to provide a more complete solution for our IPTV products.
